To welcome you, here’s 20% off when you come to Singapore in 2020!

Singapore gained sovereignty in 1965, since then, we have evolved into a metropolitan city. Being an island with land scarcity, we achieved low numbers of homelessness by developing Public Housing. On this themed tour, we would rediscover the process of this development.

This trail will first lead us into the last village in Singapore. We would listen to the tales of the past and the everyday lives of Singaporeans. This is where we would comprehend the concept of Public Housing and understand the Resettlement Process from Villages to High-Rise Housing.

Next, we would deconstruct the factors that defined our Singapore “heartlands”. A heartland of Singapore refers to an area where most citizens reside, worrying about relatable problems in life.

Lastly, we would revisit the housing situation in Singapore after World War 2 and re-look at some of the solutions. From there, we step into a housing space that represents the transition of Singapore’s housing system. This would be the perfect experience for tour participants who want to understand what it is like living in Singapore and how far we have come.

Places

  1. Lorong Buangkok :
    • Step into the last village of Singapore, at Lorong Buangkok, where you get a glimpse of the life in Singapore villages before the rise of skyscrapers and modern buildings. Listen to old tales about our “Kampong Spirit” and learn about how Singaporeans have to adapt to new living environments upon the major paradigm shift from Villages to High Rises.
  2. Toa Payoh Heartlands :
    • Walk through the neighbourhood to witness the result of meticulous planning, innovation and creativity in building communities and housing a nation. Be guided to the facilities and landmarks that define the “Heartlands”. Everyday factors such as safety, recreation, faith, market, schools, would be covered in this short round of Toa Payoh.
  3. Tiong Bahru Estate :
    • The first estate that was built by the colonial government to address the housing and sanitary situation. Today, this became a model of the harmony of the Old and New. Some people called this the “Old Hipster” town. Discover the juxtaposition yourself!
  4. Bukit Ho Swee :
    • The first series of modern Housings were constructed here, with its purpose to solve our Housing Issues after the World War 2. Change is never easy, what do we have to sacrifice to progress?
